The redevelopment of Auckland’s High Court and Court of Appeal modernized the historic 1867 landmark while preserving its heritage. Commissioned by the Ministry of Justice, S&T transformed the Court of Appeal Hearing Centre into a combined civil and criminal High Court registry, adding a public counter meeting updated safety standards. Key upgrades included a new non-custodial civil courtroom, repurposing historic Courtroom 3, and extensive interior refurbishments to accommodate the Court of Appeal. Enhancements featured new chambers, office spaces, improved amenities, heritage-sensitive modifications, and technology upgrades. The project balanced modern security, judicial standards, and architectural preservation, ensuring a functional yet historically respectful courthouse.
